Project Title: Restoration of Zekari Monastery
Project Implementation Dates: 2012–2013
Beneficiary: Zekari Monastery
Grant: 2,630 Lari
In May 2012, Fund Ardza provided financial support to Zekari Monastery of Urbnisi and Ruisi Diocese of Georgian Patriarchate. The main church of the monastery was destroyed during the 1940 earthquake. The donation issued from the Fund will be used for the restoration and rehabilitation of the monastery.
Zekari Monastery dates back to earlier feudal period and is located in the Kareli region. The monastery by its buildings resembles Vera (Ateni) and St. Kvirike (Borjomi ravine) monasteries. Zekari complex consists of John the Baptist church, church tower, dining hall, fence of the church and other remains of the buildings.
Fund Ardza continues to support the rehabilitation and preservation of Georgian cultural monuments, since the maintenance of the national values and care for cultural-religious heritage monuments is one of the main directions of the Fund.
